IndigenousCitizen writes "Three Aboriginal tribes were the original occupants of the Lithgow region; the Wiradjuri to the west, Dhurag to the east and the Gundungurra to the South. The region was used as a passageway by these tribes. Marrangaroo, on the outskirts of Lithgow, means passageway. Within Lithgow (known as Wywandy by Aborigninal people) there are many sacred sites including rock shelters, burial grounds, carved trees and rock art.
